Single in the City

Hiya, thought I would post some-thing for a little comic relief after the intensity of the last few days....

Where are all the brothers? I know there are some out there as I have brothers and cousins who are normal (I use this term loosely) decent guys; when my hair was in a weave down to my behind I had no problem finding love among some of London’s finest boroughs. Thank-you Harlesden, Hackney, Brixton since growing out my hair with no chemical process I have noticed a swift decline in black male interest. While I may not be interested, it is nice to be appreciated.

Now the white guys are not playing and they are stepping up hard every-time I turn around some-one from the Caucasian persuasion is chatting me up. Thank-you boyz!
Don’t get it twisted a Rasta man who has always loved us best in our natural state will be shouting me out with a sweet one liner 'Empress' Or 'Princes' and there is that 'ONE'guy in twenty guy who really appreciates the weave-less version of me but it has made me question the Black British male perception of beauty.

Fortunately, I know I’m fine and yes conceited. Can some- body say SELF LURVE.  But it aint my fault I’m coco-licious and sexy now is it? Lol but, I wonder why my average Black Man in London does not see me?

I love all hues of blackness from your purple shiny dude with the extra white teeth all the way through to the dusky brown. I cannot choose.  I love you brothers, all of you. And if I was not a decent young lady from a good home I would try to love you all LITERALLY. Can any- body tell me why does rocking natural tresses mean I have to now sit at the back of the bus?

Can some- body say Rosa Parks....
me back in the day with my weave.
FREEDOM!
Me with my brother Karl the other week. This is how I wear my fro mostly.

  1. Coco,

I too am a 2 year natural and have noticed the EXACT same thing here in the States. As you know I'm a New York City native and now a DC transplant. Seems the brothers are a little resistant to the kinks but love the hell out of the straights...I think the deeper issue is a matter of self-perception but in an effort to keep things lighter I'll move on from that. I love my hair natural and wish I'd converted much sooner than I did now. There is something to be said for the courage to journey beyond the surface of oneself. You look absolutely fabulous, keep rocking the kinks, hopefully we will be able to turn London upside down in November!
