Riots in the City

A 29 year old black male was shot and killed last Thursday in North London’s Tottenham area. The 29 year old father of four Mark Duggan was the latest victim to be slain by the Metropolitan police. It was only a few months ago that we, 'The Black Community' mourned the death of reggae icon Smiley Culture.  With Smiley barely cold in the ground, yet another brother will not be present to raise his children into adulthood, due to police brutality.

‘The Black Community’ in North London where Duggan usually resided did not take his death quietly and peaceful protests over the weekend quickly turned violent.  Looting of local businesses, violence aimed at police literally set the city alight. These riots have now spread to Hackney, Brixton and Lewisham with no sign of things calming down.  Babylon have come out in force to restore peace but the overwhelming numbers of youth have made this a challenging task.

I am sick and tired of the institutionalised racism that threatens the lives of our young men and women daily.  However I do not wish to see another black face behind bars or dead. Therefore I pray the youth of our city will come home safely; and find other ways to fight this battle.  However rest assured if there is a revolution brothers and sisters I will be in the streets with my comrades. Chuh!
