Its official my healthy hair campaign has started. I plaited my hair this past weekend in some little box braids. And they’re okay. It’s not the kind of hairstyle that gives you sex appeal but it’s functional and easy to manage of a morning. Yes I know I’m am vain.
Hair from the back
In an effort to combat dryness I may have to reduce the amount of times I wash my hair to bi-weekly. The plan is the week I do not use my African black soap I plan to just conditioner wash. I’ll see how this works out and keep you updated. As I a not sure if this is a realistic goal for me as I love to wash my hair, but peeps while oiling my scalp this week of
an evening I realised that this act of kindness to myself was something that I really enjoyed. Taking ten minute out of a day filled with work demands, reading for school and family/friendship commitments can leave a chic feeling too tired to indulge in self, but if not me who?

Which got me to thinking that taking care of my hair is going to become a much more intricate part of my grooming routine. I’m as conscious as the next city girl about being well presented without obsessing over every item of clothing, make-up and accessory. However somewhere between being laid back about my image I have found myself lack lustre in my approach to myself. My skin care regimen is the same as it was in my teens, my wardrobe has become a blah of practical, comfortable and completely lacking in any imagination or sex appeal. Worse of all my coils have suffered from this cavalier approach and to remedy this I have made a covenant with myself to really spend time on myself. I can already hear my fellow city dwellers especially the parent’s among the group kissing their teeth at this kind of self indulgence. Or is it? Actually it has become my number one priority to do tangible things that demonstrate that I care about me. The first step into this adventure is to care for my hair in a way that says my kinks are not a chore or an afterthought. So in real terms what this actually means, for the next six months I will commit to loving myself through my hair.
1. No heat
2. No more colour
3. Less manipulation
To incorporate the last one I will be challenging myself to do protective’s hair styles such as the the plaits i'm currently rocking that are fly but require minimum daily handling. I want to retain length and have healthier hair by March 2012. I will probably add more to the original three but thought it best to keep it simple.lol
